Have you heard of Berlenga Grande? I haven’t which, I dare say is unusual for me, the armchair traveler and all. Huffington Post calls it “the prettiest island you’ve never heard of”. It’s just off the coast of Portugal.

But it’s worth a look. Check out the gallery at Huffington Post that has photos of this abandoned island fortress. Very cool.

They write:

You can book a stay in the fort, which is described as a “bare bones hostel” with a major “lack of modern life.” It’s a sunny island paradise by day, but so dark at night that you’ll need to bring a sleeping bag for warmth and a torch for light.
