For whatever reason, Toto’s “Africa” has risen, phoenix-like, from the ashes of music history, resurrected at the hands of hipsters via Buzzfeed. But what is it about that song in particular that made gave it life? Is it the lyrics? Or is it the music? This video analyzes the latter, giving you a hefty dose of music theory. It may be a bit hard to follow at times, but if you stick with it, you’ll get leave the video with a pretty good idea of what’s going on in the song.
