Meet the biggest bug on record
Posted by staff / December 1, 2011When one thinks of carrying around carrots to feed the animals, it’s usually a horse or other large beast, but luckily former park ranger Mark Moffett had one on hand when he came across this monster of a bug, or else one could easily believe his finger(s) could have been its next meal.
He and his companions were searching Little Barrier Island in New Zealand for giant wetas, a species only found on the islands thanks to predators introduced to the mainland, and happened across this whopper of a specimen. Since it’s an endangered species, they only offered up part of the carrot to prevent indigestion, then put her back where they found her.
Good luck with those nightmares tonight.
